Grilling salmon on a cedar plank is a delicious way to infuse smoky and aromatic flavors into the fish. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to grill salmon on a cedar plank:

  1. Soak the cedar plank: Start by soaking the cedar plank in water for at least 1-2 hours before grilling. This will prevent it from catching fire on the grill.

  2. Preheat the grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 375-400°F/190-200°C). If you have a gas grill, preheat with all burners on. For a charcoal grill, spread the hot coals evenly.

  3. Prepare the salmon: Rinse the salmon fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Season the salmon with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices or herbs. You can use a variety of seasonings like lemon pepper, dill, garlic powder, or smoked paprika.

  4. Place the cedar plank on the grill: Once the grill is preheated, remove the cedar plank from the water and place it directly on the grill grates. Close the lid and let the cedar plank heat up for about 5 minutes. This will help release the cedar's aroma.

  5. Place the salmon on the cedar plank: Carefully place the seasoned salmon fillets on top of the preheated cedar plank. Close the grill lid to create an oven-like environment.

  6. Grill the salmon: Let the salmon cook on the cedar plank for about 12-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets. Avoid flipping the salmon during cooking to prevent it from sticking to the plank. The cedar plank will gradually smoke and infuse the salmon with flavor.

  7. Check for doneness: You can check if the salmon is cooked by using a fork to gently separate the flakes. The salmon should be opaque and easily flake apart. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).

  8. Remove from the grill: Once the salmon is cooked, carefully remove the cedar plank from the grill using heat-resistant gloves or tongs. Place it on a heatproof surface or cutting board.

  9. Serve and enjoy: Let the salmon rest for a few minutes on the cedar plank before transferring it to a serving platter. The cedar plank will impart a wonderful aroma and add a smoky flavor to the salmon. Garnish with fresh herbs, lemon wedges, or your preferred sauce.

Remember to exercise caution when handling the hot cedar plank and using the grill. Enjoy your delicious grilled salmon on a cedar plank!
