Storing your New Grill
By - BBQBoSSMAN
Grill covers are NOT just for inclement weather, although that’s what they're sold for. A good cover will not only keep the elements off your unit but when placed and tied correctly will also keep any of the local critters from making a home around the bottom of or inside your grill.
Now, my grill is close to 12 years old and I’ve kept it covered most every day for each of those 12 years. If you looked at it now you would say it’s only 4 years old!. I do keep it very clean, both the cast iron grates and the outer grill body, but keeping the elements (rain and snow) off my grill preserves both the outer body AND the grates and burners inside the unit from rusting.
If you’re storing your grill for the winter, you need to make sure that you have properly cleaned and winterized your grill. Clean any venturi and tube burners your grill might have. Cover them in plastic wrap to prevent insects from entering and clogging the tubes.
Here are the top five reasons to use BBQ grill covers:
Using BBQ grill covers offers several benefits, enhancing the lifespan and performance of your grill while protecting it from various elements.
Protection from Weather Elements: Grill covers shield your BBQ from the damaging effects of weather elements such as rain, snow, wind, and UV rays. Exposure to moisture can cause rust and corrosion, while sunlight can fade and deteriorate the grill's finish over time. By using a cover, you can prevent these issues and extend the life of your grill.
Prevention of Rust and Corrosion: Moisture, especially from rain and humidity, can lead to rust and corrosion on the grill's metal components, including the cooking grates, burners, and other parts. A grill cover acts as a protective barrier, preventing water from seeping into the grill and causing damage. This helps maintain the grill's appearance and functionality over time.
Deterrent for Pests and Debris: Grill covers help keep pests such as insects, rodents, and birds from nesting or foraging inside the grill. Additionally, covers prevent leaves, twigs, dirt, dust, and other debris from accumulating on the grill's surfaces. This reduces the need for cleaning and maintenance, saving you time and effort.
Preservation of Grill's Appearance: UV rays from the sun can cause fading, discoloration, and deterioration of the grill's exterior surfaces, including paint, plastic parts, and stainless steel. By using a cover, you can protect the grill's appearance and maintain its aesthetics for longer, ensuring it looks good and functions well for years to come.
Convenience and Ease of Use: Using a grill cover is a simple and convenient way to protect your investment. Most covers are lightweight and easy to put on and take off, allowing you to cover the grill quickly when not in use. Additionally, many covers come with features such as adjustable straps, buckles, or drawstrings to ensure a snug and secure fit, even in windy conditions.
Overall, using a BBQ grill cover is an essential step in maintaining and prolonging the life of your grill. It helps protect against weather damage, rust, pests, debris, and UV rays, preserving the grill's appearance and performance over time. Investing in a high-quality cover tailored to your grill's size and specifications is a worthwhile investment that can save you money on repairs or replacement in the long run.
